This new adjustable bed base is for use on odd sized beds as well as standard size metal or wooden beds, and suitable for most beds between 4ft and 5ft wide. It is self supporting in the centre so needs no central support.

We sell this product for a variety of French and English antique beds including Corbeille beds, as well as modern or made to measure beds. It can even be used in caravan design or bespoke sleeping areas.
The base will slide / extend out to the size you need, it is not notched, so needs securing to metal beds where it lies on top of the bed frame. On wooden beds, where it usually sits within the frame of the bed no securing is required.
With a variable width you can always re-use this base with a larger or smaller bed.
This base has a dark blue metal frame with 27 lightly sprung beach slats.
The base weighs approximately 20kg and is shipped in its smallest form, 87 x 189 x 8 cm.
It arrives packed with dimensions 87 x 189 x 8 cm and so can be ideal for staircases with limited space.

Fitting the base to metal beds:

The base is shown in the photos below on a standard 4 ft 6 wide French iron bed. The base sits firmly at each 4 corners of the bed – there is no bend in the middle of the frame.

Although the frame sits quite firmly as it is, we would recommend that you secure it to your bed. This can be done by screwing through the metal frame into the frame of your bed, or it can simply be tied onto the frame – cable ties are particularly strong and easy to use and we can supply them on request at no additional cost (in black or white).

Fitting the base to wooden beds:

Most wooden beds will have some form of supports to take a base as shown in the photos at the bottom of the page. If your bed does not have these cross bars, then you need to add them which is a simple task.

If you feel that cross bars alone, as shown here, are not sufficient support for your slats, then you can always add a wooden ledge, normally though, the cross bars work well on their own. We always add the central leg to take the weight of the cross piece.

To extend the base to the width you need, just pull them apart and then lay them down on your supports. The base doesn’t move and doesn’t need to be fixed in place when they are used within the side pieces of the bed.
